Saturday 11 July - Sunday 12 July, 2009Dear Mama Linda, I thank you for sand dollars and dark sand from Washington Beach.
I do want to know about sand dollars and what they used to be. I like to research and find information. I do it today.
Sand dollars are like sea stars and sea urchins, echinoderms.
They have flat circular bodies and tiny spines underneath. They crawl and dig with them. They find food in the sand and push it through grooves running to the center where the mouth is. The top of the sand dollar's body has breathing tubes in a star shape.
Sand dollars are alive when you find them wet and in the sand that will be wet again soon.
Ms Patty learned that they should not be taken if they are not bleached and dry. If they are all dried out they are dead already. If they are not dead when you take them from the beach you are killing them. Ms Patty felt awful for killing her sand dollars. But she just did not know. But do not worry because God will forgive us when we do not know we are doing it.

Oh Sweet Joshua. What a grat report on Sand Dollars. I did not know either that you should only take them when they are bleached and dry. Thank God for forgiveness. I do not think I have ever found a sand dollar But when I know I am now more informed. THANK YOU.
